Getting an arm lift can be life changing for anyone whose flabby and wrinkled arms cause insecurities that affect their daily lives, to the point where they feel the need to hide them.
For many people, the lower part of their arms becomes distended with time and hangs loosely in a manner that is not the most harmonious. Brachioplasty, or arm lift, is the best way to get rid of this unwanted excess of tissue that tends to be uncomfortable and bothersome.
Arm lifts are most adapted for people with excess skin and fat tissue under the arm (generally between the armpit and the elbow). In rare cases, only the upper part of the arm by the armpit is affected. In these cases, the scar can be easily hidden under the armpit, but in most cases, a thin scar on the inner part of the arm is inevitable.
The first step is a liposuction that allows to reshape the fat tissue of the arm. The excess skin is then removed through a rolling motion, allowing the muscles to appear more toned and keeping the scar from getting larger.
The operation is conducted under general anesthesia at the clinic. It lasts about two hours and it is generally recommended for the patient to stay at the clinic overnight.
You will have to wear a compression sleeve during the week following the operation. You may feel pain when lifting your arms up, which is why it is best to avoid this motion for the first week, which implies limits on driving. Pains are easily treatable with simple painkillers. Any swelling and bruises take two to three weeks to disappear completely. It is important to keep an eye on your scars, as they sometimes require preventive care.
You can go back to work a week after the operation and resume physical activities 3 to 5 weeks after that.
